Loving Yourself First

Loving Yourself First

Self-neglect is considered to be one of the greatest cancers of the soul. The only way to get rid of it is to start loving oneself. Most of us fail to take care of ourselves and this, eventually takes a toll on the relationships with our loved ones. After all, if you fail to love yourself, how will you be capable of loving others?
Thich Nhat Hanh once said, "To be beautiful means to be yourself. You don't need to be accepted by others. You need to accept yourself."
Learning to love oneself is a gradual progress, something that cannot be achieved instantaneously. However, here are a few things to keep in mind when embarking on this pursuit.
Instigate Mornings sans Your Phone
Every morning, the first thing we do, albeit subconsciously, is checking our phones. Consider beginning your mornings without technology for once. Take in deep breaths, and tell yourself that you are important. Human beings tend to focus on feelings of self-hatred and self-pity. Focus on self-respect and self-love every morning, instead.
Keep A Journal
Keeping a journal is considered to be a highly therapeutic activity when it comes to understanding, and eventually, loving oneself. Write down your worries and fears and then look at it all from a third person's perspective. What if your best friend had these fears and thoughts? What would you have said to him/her? Now, say those things to yourself.
Give Yourself a Break and Laugh It Away
Remember, to err is human. Don't beat yourself on the mistakes you have committed in the past. Instead, focus on what you have learnt from that experience. Moreover, laughter really is considered to be the best medicine. Consider joining fun activities, something that you haven't done before, for example, bungee jumping! Explore your inner self by going on board with more fun for yourself.
No one in the world is as you are, making you special just the way you are. No matter what the consequences are, refuse to go quietly in the night, fight for yourself and learn to accept yourself. Make this one life worth living, for yourself and for your loved ones.
